Faxing through the internet is also totally dark dark green! No trees are cut down for paper, and there are no toxic toner cartridges to be used and then disposed of in a landfill. So this method of faxing is really eco-friendly.

The cost is right too. The actual cost of sending and receiving faxes is the same as sending and receiving emails—there is no cost. There is a fee however, charged by the online fax service of your choice, for eFax facilitation. If you added the cost of your old fax expenses, cost of fax machinery, maintenance of machinery, a dedicated phone line, ink and toner cartridge, and paper for the expenses. The time it took to fax and check to make sure they actually sent, and if they didn’t, the time to resend them, would need to be added to the actual expense total. The final amount would end up being a pretty expensive fax.

The internet fax services serve the purpose of the dedicated phone line on the old fax machine. When you sign up with the server of your choice, you will receive an eFax number (like the number for the old machine). Most of the services offer a free trial period, with free incoming faxes, but you have to pay a per fax fee, or a subscription fee to the service in order to be able to fax through the internet.
