Back in the ‘good ole days’ in order to receive a fax, you either had to have a fax machine, or know the fax number at the town library or other business that would charge people to pick their faxes up there.

Now you can receive a fax without a fax machine and you can send a fax without a fax machine. With the aide of an online fax service provider and email, you can receive faxes. Isn’t technology wonderful!

In order to receive fax without a fax machine, first you will need to register an account with an onsite fax service provider. There are lots of these companies out there, and the prices are extremely economical. Comparatively, to go pick up a fax today at the drugstore they charge $3.00 per page plus add their own cover page with a $2.50 charge for it. Prices do need to be compared on the online fax services though, because they do vary somewhat. Some of them are even free if you don’t send or receive over a certain amount of faxes each month.

Some of the service providers will allow you to receive fax through your email address, and this method needs no added software. Other companies will have you download a fax into your computer which will allow you to send and receive faxes that way.

Services which allow you to fax free use generated numbers; but if you are paying a monthly fax service bill, they will give you a number.

Any of the three available options is definitely not going to be as expensive to maintain and run as the old-fashioned fax machine. Besides the cost cutting factor, sending and receiving faxes online is also very eco-friendly. With the new fax ‘system’ there isn’t any paper used, so the forests are not being cut down. There is no toxic toner used, so nothing bio hazard to dispose of, and there isn’t an ink cartridge, so there won’t be an empty cartridge to fill up a landfill.
